At XCELEVATE Skills Foundation, we constantly strive to reimagine how learning happens. For us, education is not just about delivering content — it is about creating experiences that stay, shape thinking, and build confidence for life.
Recently, we had the privilege of welcoming U Jay to our Chennai Gurukul for the very first time — and what unfolded was nothing short of extraordinary.
We believe that real learning often lies beyond traditional methods. In line with this philosophy, we decided to experiment — what if communication skills were taught not by conventional trainers, but by someone who lives and breathes expression?
Inviting an actor to conduct communication training was a bold step.
And it exceeded every expectation.
U Jay travelled from Mumbai to Chennai with a simple yet powerful belief:
“What is learned with joy, stays longer.”
An actor and model based in Mumbai, with roots in Delhi, U Jay brings with him a rich background across theatre, on-camera work, and fashion. His journey across performance platforms has given him a deep and intuitive understanding of expression, presence, and human connection.
And that is exactly what he brought into our classrooms.
Because communication, as he demonstrated, is far more than grammar and vocabulary.
It is:
Voice modulation
Body language
Emotional expression
Confidence
Presence
Connection
And these cannot be mastered through theory alone — they must be experienced.
From the very beginning, the sessions were immersive, interactive, and full of energy.
Apprentices were not passive learners — they were active participants.
They worked deeply on:
Pronunciation and articulation
Stress and tone
Clarity in speech
Structuring responses
Words were broken down, understood, and rebuilt correctly not mechanically, but meaningfully.
The sessions extended beyond structured exercises into dynamic activities:
Improvisation drills that encouraged spontaneity
Role reversals, where apprentices became hiring managers and interviewed their peers
Mock scenarios that simulated real-world communication challenges
At one point, the classroom transformed into a courtroom.
As one apprentice spoke, others raised objections not to criticize, but to constructively highlight areas of improvement. This unique format created a highly engaging feedback loop, where learning was collaborative, immediate, and impactful.
What made the experience truly special was the human connection.
U Jay didn’t just teach, he engaged.
He:
Played with the students
Danced with them
Shared personal stories
Opened up conversations around confidence and self-belief
Slowly, barriers began to dissolve.
Students who were initially hesitant started participating. Voices that were once unsure became clearer. Expressions became more natural. Confidence started to emerge visibly and powerfully.
The impact of the sessions was immediate and evident:
Stronger and more structured introductions
Improved eye contact
Clearer articulation
More expressive and confident answers
Greater willingness to participate and speak
The classroom evolved into a safe performance space, a place where apprentices could experiment, express themselves freely, and grow without fear of judgment.
U Jay did not just conduct a workshop.
He introduced a new way of learning at our Chennai Gurukul.
His visit marked the beginning of integrating drama pedagogy into our communication training a shift towards experiential learning that goes beyond textbooks and traditional teaching methods.
This approach recognizes that skills like communication, confidence, and presence are not built through instruction alone, but through experience, practice, and reflection.
At XCELEVATE Skills Foundation, our goal is not just to prepare apprentices for jobs, but to prepare them for life.
Experiences like these:
Expand their comfort zones
Strengthen their self-belief
Equip them with real-world skills
Help them discover their own voice
Because when learning is felt, it lasts.
We will continue to bring such innovative, experiential learning opportunities to our apprentices, creating an ecosystem where growth is continuous, engaging, and deeply human.
